How to set up a free email on Bluehost

If you’re hosting your website with Bluehost and you need to make sure that your Contact form submissions on your contact page is actually going to make it to your inbox. Or if you just can’t work out how to set up a free email account, this is the quick tutorial you need.

The paid email service is easy to find in the Bluehost portal, but for the free webmail service you have to dig a little.

Follow this easy step-by-step guide and find out how to set up a free email on Bluehost! These steps also works similar with other major hosting providers such as Site ground, GoDaddy, HostGator etc.

SET UP A FREE WEBMAIL ADDRESS IN BLUEHOST

Step 1

Login to your Bluehost Portal (there’s a link in your Bluehost welcome email). (If you haven’t set up your hosting yet, you can sign up with Bluehost here.

When you login to the Bluehost Portal, you will see the image below. Now everyone, including me, would click on Email & Office to set up their email. That would make sense, right? But this link takes you to a paid email service: The Office 365 Mailbox and cost around $7.99 per month. Some people might prefer Office 365 but I’d rather host my email for free. There is no mention of a free webmail service on this page, so go back (or don’t click on this link in the first place) and select: Advanced.

Step 2

Scroll down to the Email section and click on Email Accounts.

Step 3

This is the page where you would normally see all your email accounts. You don’t have one yet, so there is none. Click on the blue Create button.

Step 4

Here you can create your email address. In the right section you’ll see your domain name with the @ sign in front of it. In the left section you can fill out whatever you want. My advice is to make the email relevant to how you plan to use it. Terms like “info”, “support” or “sales” work well.

For example our email is info@thegoldenarts.com

Make sure to create a strong password and write down your new email address and password somewhere safe.

Scroll down and click Create.

Step 5

Here you can view your new email address. In the top right corner you can see how many emails you have. You can create up to 5 email addresses with the Bluehost basic plan.

Step 6

The easiest way to login to your email is to open a new web browser window and type your domain name with /webmail at the end. Like this:

Or you can simply go to https://login.bluehost.com/hosting/webmail here and enter in your Email and Password. (see image 1B).

Step 7

This will bring you to the webmail login screen. Enter your email address and password and click Log In.

Or if you chose the blue host link (https://login.bluehost.com/hosting/webmail) you will see this login screen. Make sure that “Webmail Login” is selected.

Step 8

Here you can choose your favorite webmail application. Roundcube is usually the best option. However, choose the email application of your desire.

Step 9

Now you’re in your webmail Inbox where you can read your emails. Your first email is from Bluehost: email configuration settings.

Step 10 (optional)

You did it! Mission accomplished. If you want to take it a step further and configure your email settings and interface appearance see our next blog, How to configure your Webmail settings and interface“. (Coming Soon)
